OckHAM's soccer Updates
News -
Last Up: 03/11/2005

This is a website that started to provide complete and detailed updates for two videogames inspired by the mythical Sensible Soccer for first: Andreas Osswald's Championship Soccer and the Yoda Soccer project: while the first is a very masterpiece for the lovers of the Sensible style game, programmed with a lot of detail and provided with an incredible editing capability, the second is still in a very beginning phase, even if the "engine" of the game has been realized, anyway it has the merit to be completely freeware and opened to the community contributions. For these reasons, providing my updates, that will start form CONCAF and South America leagues to arrive to the more complexes and elaburated european leagues, I want to provide every database update both in Championship Soccer version and Yoda Soccer version, hoping that this updates could result usueful and that will be possibile to put together the efforts of many persons to realize more and more complex and refined database for these two games. The objective of this site is to update the old-style soccer games, as Kickoff and its clones.

Searching some old Atari ST games on the internet I found a 1991 editor for Kickoff2, working on the Atari ST, that is able to creat SQD files, i.e. squad files readable by Kickoff2 Final Whistle version: I'm working on finding a way to import SQD Atari ST files on Amiga, because this is the platform that has the best version of KO, but in the meanwhile I decided to open another section of this site, suppressing the italian version (everyone should be able to understan my simple english), dedicated to Kick Off 2: this means too that "OckHAM's SWOS Updates" is now "OckHAM's soccer Updates": working on the clones of SWOS I discovered how much I still like the old classic soccer games (together with the news ones, of course) so I decided to expand my work and my site to more games: thus first of all Kickoff and Total Soccer (funny KO clone), and in the future I hope to include more games. In the meanwhile I stopped the update on Yoda, just because I'm waiting a more stable and funny version, with a good AI to play against: I still believe Yoda is a great and wonderful opensource project, but it's worth to "work" on the games that allow a good gameplay. Everyone knows about the new Codemaster project to produce a sequel to Sensible Soccer for PC, PS2 and XBOX: from the first images I have to say that I'm really impressed: I hope this can be a good input for the SWOS-clone projects. Sadly no news is coming from Andreas Osswald and his Championship Soccer: frankly the CS community seems a bit dead and silent, and this is a GREAT mess considering the potentiality his game has: the 3d road, I'm sure of this, was and is the wrong road, I hope the time can confutate me. I added a Links section too with links to interesting resources about the games present in this site on the internet, and I realized the SWOS Online section too of the site. Updated the Amiga SWOS version with the last updates done for the pc version.

A very consistent update specifically for Championship Soccer: updated all the databases realized for the 2004/05 season to the 2005/06 season (the whole CONMEBOL, Mexico and Italy), realized the leagues of Germany, England and France (only first divisions). Updated the international competitions file with a lot of regional leagues (particularly the brazilian statual leagues). I realized a database in excel containing all the data of the updated teams so to make easier the conversion to other formats. When I'll finish converting all the teams realized for CS to Yoda (in the meanwhile has been released the new versione, 0.71), I'll begin the conversion for Total Soccer 2000 and New Star Soccer 3 too. An important variation in the site structure: the sections dedicated to SWOS PC will be suspended, replaced by the excellent work of update already done by the argentinian friend Diego on the "SWOS Fans Updates" site. I'll try a conversion for the Amiga format of Diego's work soon. During next week I'll add a "quickstart" for Championship Soccer: a generic save file of the beginning of the season with a great number of leagues generated, to play without having to wait the generation of datas.

The work on the updates continues even if slowly: actually I'm creating an excel database containing all the data of the players from the previous updates: during the data compilation I'm updating to the actual soccer season with a particular regard to Championship Soccer. Seems very interesting the incoming release of New Star Soccer 3, an interesting game provided with a powerful editor for which I will surely begin the database conversion.

Back from my vacations I returned to my update work with some news: actually the development and the updating of Yoda Soccer seem a bit stopped, considering how this game it's not completely playable yet I decided to suspend the updates for this game until the disponibility of a beta that is playable enough: I'll continue the Championship Soccer updates, having completed the first 2005/06 season update, the Spanish one (Liga and Segunda Division): then I'll update all the other ones previously realized for the 2004/05 season with the market of this summer, and then I'll continue with the other european countries. Parallely I'll convert these updates for the SWOS formats too. In the Championship Soccer section you can find the new update including Spain 05/06. With the next update I will fix some bugs of the leagues and cups settings in CS.

In the last days I dedicated myself almost exclusively to fixing some bugs encountered in the elaboration of fixtures calendar in Championship Soccer and to the creation of databases related to the first european nation that I'm doing: Italy. The italian leagues have a division (the third one) splitted in two groups and one (the fourth one) splitted in three: this division can't be recreated in Championship Soccer: so I decided to put in C1A (as third division) the first 18 teams of the two groups, and in C1B (as fourth division) the last 18. I resolved many problems related to the african and asiatic national teams and I resolved the problem with the Copa Sudamerican that crashes the game. Now I will convert the work on italian leagues for Yoda, then I should release the 1.7 update for the PC and Amiga version. I realized a new graphical mod for Championship Soccer using the original SWOS sprites.

I'm working at the first european country of my updates, Italy, and because I'm doing very accurate updates, with serie A, B, C1A-B, C2A-B-C, this is taking a bit more time. In the meanwhile, just for fun, I imported and adapted the Kick Off 2 graphics in Championship Soccer: you can find the file in the section of this game. I think I should be able to realize for the month of July a detaleid guide to Champ Soccer.

Added the Primera Division (first division) and Segunda Division (second division) of Peru and the national Peruan cup; fixed in Ch Soccer some bugs related to the calendar of the continental and international competitions, some fixes to the tournaments with liguilla (final play offs). Added in Ch Soccer the copa Sudamericana (american version of UEFA Cup) and the Recopa Sudamericana (american version of European Super Cup). Added new colours in Ch Soccer (with the file colour_table.txt).

Added the Primera Division, Primera Division B and Tercera Division of Chile. Added the Primera División of Bolivia, very detailed thanks to some very good sites I was able to find. Added in the Championship Soccer section the new Graphics.bmp file that improves the graphic of the game with sprites inspired and adapted from Yoda Soccer. Improved the kits of all the teams in Ch Soccer, added for Ch Soccer the brazilian regional tournaments (Torneo Paulista and Torneo Carioca), improved the performance of all the goalkeepers in the game. I hope to be able for the next week to complete all the Latin America and to update the PC and Amiga versions of SWOS.

Added the Division Profesional and the Division Intermedia of Paraguay (first and second division) in the Yoda and Championship Soccer versions. Many fixes to the Championship Soccer files and the Copa Libertadores finally properly working: in the carrer modality you can select maximum three leagues contemporary, if not the game is not able to manage all the datas with the Cups. Started the work of improvement of the kits in Championship Soccer, and always for CS realized a new graphical file to import the adapted Yoda graphics in Championship Soccer: waiting for authorization by Yoda staff.

30/05/2005
Added the Primera Division and the Segunda Division of Uruguay (first and second division), added the Copa Mustang and the Primera B of Colombia (first and second division) for all the formats; fixed some bugs present in the Argentinian divisions of Yoda (thanks to Homer for the segnalation) and some bugs in Championship Soccer format. Added the english version of the SWOS PC and the SWOS Amiga sections, added a forum to discuss about problems on updates.

22/05/2005
Added first Ecuadorian Division, fixes some bugs in the previous leagues, realized the Copa Libertadores for Championship Soccer.

18/05/2005

Added first and second division of Colombia, at the moment I'm working at Ecuador leagues and at the first version of PC SWOS with the updated datas; the Amiga version is actually a bit more hard.

With this first update has been realized the first two divisions of Mexican and Argentinian leagues and the first division of Brazilian league: you can find all the details in the proper section of the site, that contains all the informations about the different versions and in the specifical sections too.
